University of Dubai 6th Annual Alumni Homecoming celebrates achievements
H.H. Sheikh Nahyan bin Mubarak urges graduates to make a difference through contributions that can improve quality of life and citizen prosperity
The 6th Annual Alumni Homecoming event of the University of Dubai was organised under the patronage of H. H. Sheikh Nahyan bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, Minister of Culture, Youth, and Social Development, on March 7, 2015, at the Grand Hyatt Hotel in Dubai. The event, sponsored by Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA), celebrated the achievements of the University's alumni and their contributions to the country.
In a key note speech on the occasion, H. H. Sheikh Nahyan bin Mubarak Al Nahyan said: "Our country has always stressed economic, technological and human development and innovation as the foundation for sustained progress and prosperity. In a very short time, our wise leaders have guided the United Arab Emirates to a prominent global position by developing a knowledge-based economy and society. Our country requires graduates who can make a difference through contributions that can improve the quality of life and prosperity of its citizens."
Commending the University of Dubai for creating an excellent Alumni Association that has enriched the lives of its graduates, H. H. Sheikh Nahyan said: "An active alumni association reflects the maturity of a university. I note with admiration the establishment of the annual Alumni-Student Mentoring Program that offers career support through a variety of activities, making available the use of university facilities, and providing corporate partnerships that provides opportunities for UD alumni."
Present on the occasion were Mohammed Al Murr, Speaker of the Federal National Council, H.E. Abdul Rahman Saif Al Ghurair, Chairman of the Dubai Chamber, Majed Hamad Al Shamsi, Chairman, Board of Trustees of University of Dubai, and Dr. Easa M. Bastaki, President of University of Dubai, as well as a number of representatives from government departments and large number of students of the university.
Addressing the gathering, Dr. Bastaki described Sheikh Nahyan as the "Godfather of Higher Education in UAE." He said: "Our distinguished alumni have been an integral part of the university through various efforts to support activities organised for the university students. The UD Alumni Association focuses on supporting activities and educational programmes of the university and the graduates who have gone on to achieve great success, occupying high positions in the UAE and contributing to the country's economic and social development."
The 6th Annual Alumni Homecoming event recognize the most successful and supportive UD alumni and honored outstanding Alumni professionals and their achievements.
The UD Alumni through its programmes provide services to the university, particularly to the students, by organising seminars, workshops and lectures on career prospects and the labour market. Through access to faculty research, efforts are made to provide the best services to community and individuals.
University of Dubai holds 5th Annual Alumni Homecoming

Under the patronage of Sheikh Mohammed Maktoum Juma Al Maktoum, President of the Board of Directors of the University of Dubai’s Alumni Association (UDAA), the University of Dubai (UD) recently celebrated its 5th Annual Alumni Homecoming at the InterContinental Dubai Festival City.
The event’s primary sponsor was National Trading & Developing Establishment, one of the Gulf’s leading distribution and logistics providers for international consumer brands in the region and its secondary sponsors were the Information and Communication Technology Fund (ICT Fund), Al Tadawi Medical Center and Thai Airways International.
H.E. Dr. Abdulkhader Al Khayat, Chairman of ICT Fund, said, “The ICT Fund would like to thank the University of Dubai for their on-going support and cooperation. As a federal government entity, we urge all educational institutions from across the UAE to continue their hard work in preparing the nation’s youth to become our future leaders of industry.”
UD alumni got the chance to reconnect with UD faculty, staff and fellow classmates as well as treat their family members to a night of dinner and entertainment, thanks to the event’s gracious sponsors. The night was filled with entertainment such as traditional dance, live music performed by UD student, and an award ceremony recognizing the most successful, and the most supporting alumni, in addition to a prospective successful alumnus as below.
In his speech, Sheikh Mohammed Maktoum Juma Al Maktoum welcomed the new UD board of directors’ members, who are willing to collaborate and add to this association. In addition, Sheikh Mohammed urged Alumni to continue to be engaged with the university as a way to give to the institution that helped them get to where they are now. It is important, he said, to help the university become known around the region, so students graduating from high school know that they have a local option for higher education that meets high international standards.
The CBA Dean’s Alumni Networking Event and the CIT Dean’s Alumni Networking Event
Alumni use this opportunity to mingle and reconnect with classmates, faculty and staff. Attending alumni are encouraged to actively participate in several initiatives being launched by the Alumni Association in collaboration with the Internship and Career Development Center. The University of Dubai takes this opportunity to share with alumni news about most recent accomplishment and new programs being offered by UD. These events are held on the month of January and March. The college of IT event is held in January and the College of Business’s is held in March.
Charity Gala Event
A yearly Charity Gala is organized by the UDAA every May.. Proceeds from this event are donated exclusively to the Alumni and Friends of the University of Dubai Scholarship Fund and all financial records are transparent, reviewed and held by the University until disbursement to scholarship recipients. The event is open to the entire UD community, including alumni, faculty, staff,administration and current students. Local businesses and individuals who support the Scholarship Fund will also be invited to attend.
During the annual homecoming event, UD awards alumni members who reflect the University’s tradition of excellence and have brought distinction to themselves and UD through outstanding achievements in both professional and social life. Nominees along with proof of achievement for all the following awards are to be sent one month before the ceremony. Selections are made by the Alumni Relations Office.
The Alumni Awards consist for the following 3 categories:
- Professional Achievement Awards
Given to UDAA members who have achieved great success in their professions, have made distinguished career accomplishments or who have made outstanding contributions to their professions.
- Most Active Alumni Award
Given to UDAA members who have shown extreme involvement and have demonstrated exceptional leadership and service to the University of Dubai and its activities and business functions, enhancing the affiliations with its alumni, student body, and the broader community.
- Outstanding Future Alumnus
Given to a UD student, enrolled in a full-time undergraduate degree and with a minimum of one year of study who has consistently demonstrated outstanding academic performance and continuous voluntary service to UD.
