The University of Dubai Alumni Association (UDAA), in collaboration with Dubai Charity Association, held its third “Annual Gala Charity Suhoor” during the holy month of Ramadan to raise funds for meritorious students who are facing financial difficulties.
Sponsored by Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA), the suhoor took place on May 31st, 2017 at St. Regis Hotel under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed Bin Maktoum Bin Juma Al Maktoum.
The suhoor also came in line with the vision of His Highness Sheikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan who announced 2017 as the “Year of Giving.”
This year, the ceremony featured a religious seminar under the title “Supporting education in the year of giving” prepared and presented by Sheikh Waseem Yousef in presence of UD President Dr. Eesa Bastaki, participating institutions from government departments and private sectors in addition to a group of philanthropists, alumni, and students.
“The aim of this yearly event is to raise monetary donations for UD students who are challenged financially and unable to pursue their studies for economic reasons,” said Dr. Bastaki. He added that this annual event has raised funds and gave golden opportunities to more than 40 students over the past three years. “When it comes to education, we should not leave anyone behind us,” he concluded.
Director of UDAA Ms. Amina Al-Marzak, said: “UD is honored to hold such charitable events during the month and year of caring and giving”. The presence and contribution of philanthropists will support the association and strengthen its charitable journey to serve the society and help ensure the wellbeing of students, she added.
