BECN 100: Microeconomics

The purpose of this course is to provide concepts related to the equilibrium between demand, and supply. Elasticity measures the dependency between demand and supply and the impact of changes in either on the equilibrium price level. Understanding these concepts enables businesses to differentiate among various companies on an individual level, and to determine their attractiveness for the businesses.

BECN 225: Macroeconomics

This course provides an overview of determination of output; unemployment; interest rates, and inflation. Monetary and fiscal policies are discussed besides public debt and international economic issues. The course also introduces basic models of macroeconomics and illustrates principles with the experience of the U.A.E and other economies.

BECN 250: Money and Banking

The purpose of this course is to study operations of the financial institutions and markets that operate in the UAE and in the major western countries. The coverage includes both practical and theoretical viewpoints relating to interest rate determination, term structure of interest, financial market efficiency, regulation, and internationalization.

BSTA 200: Statistical Analysis

The purpose of the course is to acquaint students with the basic concepts of statistics and probabilities that will help them make decisions using UAE data. Coverage includes: basic probability, sampling, hypothesis testing, simple and multiple regression models.

BBUS 235: Advanced Research Methods

The purpose of this course is to enable students acquire the skills necessary to develop scientific research proposal.  Undertake systematic research using empirical and non-empirical approaches, literature review and the structure and management of a research project.

BBUS 250: Business Negotiating Skills

The purpose of this course is to improve students' negotiation skills in business and capacity to acquire and effectively use power. Its premise is that to be effective, managers must posses both strong analytical skills to identify solutions to business problems and a broad array of negotiation skills to empower acceptance of those solutions.

BACC 205: Principles of Financial Accounting

The course introduces students to accounting concepts, principles, and processes underlying the production of financial statements. It focuses on the analyses, measurement and reporting of business transactions to users of financial statements. It also examines uses and limitations of accounting information, as well as the ethical issues affecting financial statements.

BACC 210: Principles of Managerial Accounting

This course examines the role of accounting information in managing organizations. It focuses on concepts and tools used in planning operations, controlling activities, and decision making. Topics covered include fundamental cost concepts, cost-volume profit analysis, budgetary planning, responsibility accounting and performance evaluation, incremental analysis, and capital budgeting.

BBUS 200: Quantitative Methods for Business

The purpose of the course is to model and solve decision problems in business using decision tools such as linear programming, transportation and assignment models. Suitable software will be used to help solving the problems.

The purpose of this course is to help student understanding management of finance within a business organization. BFIN 301: Financial Mathematics

This course helps in-depth understanding of financial tools required for making Investments & Managerial finance decisions.  Apply them to current investment, banking & financial process. Topics include review of time value of money (TVM) for continuous cash flows, statistical concepts of financial returns, computation of money market yields, basic portfolio return measurement, Baye's formula, application of normal and lognormal distributions to financial returns, Monte Carlo simulation, and Derivation of E-V components.

BFIN 316: Financial Statement Analysis

This course focuses on the three major financial statements: the balance sheet, the income statement, and the statement of cash flows. For each financial statement, the course details its purpose, construction, pertinent ratios, and common-size analysis. Understanding these Concepts allows a student to evaluate trends in performance over several measurement periods and to compare the performance of different companies over the same period(s). BFIN 326: Venture Capital Finance

The purpose of the course is to build student skills, frameworks and knowledge in venture capital finance of small & medium enterprises. Most companies are at a relatively early stage of maturity and by definition are not publicly listed on exchanges. The context of venture capital is different than that of traditional corporate finance. The skills and frameworks are therefore, of necessity, more focused on cash flow, returns and recognizable value. The syllabus includes risk management, types of investment and funding sources, modeling opportunities, examine venture capital funding, conduct due diligence, technology transfers and IP acquisitions.

This course focuses on introducing students to the basics of econometric analysis: some of the main issues will include hypothesis testing, model building as well as diagnostic and corrective procedures.

BECN 309: Industrial Organization

The course focuses on the organization of markets, learn the pricing strategies of firms should produce, the range of products a firm should produce. Analysis of the behavior of firms under different industrial structures.

BECN 402: Economic Forecasting

This course focuses on applied econometric techniques in analyzing business problems. Its focus will be on forecasting and predicting business situations. The course emphasizes use of econometric tools such as SPSS/STATA.

BECN 404: International Trade

The course focuses on learning the theoretical models of International trade and competitive advantages; tools used by governments to determine and conduct trade policy, such as tariffs and quotas, with their impact on trade volumes and social welfare.

BECN 406: Seminar in Labor Economics

The course focuses on analyzing wages, working hours, conditions of work, fringe benefits, and productivity. It also explains how labor is supplied to the marketplace in the short and long run in the UAE and the region.

BECN 408: Economics of the Middle East

The purpose of the course is to familiarize the students with factors impacting the regional stability of the MENA countries, impact of oil wealth on economic growth such as the leading indicators, prospects for macroeconomic stability, and major risk factors that could have an adverse effect on business climate in the MENA region.

Internship

Internship (for non-working students) Course Code 465 for all Majors, (but with respective prefixes of the Majors)

This course provides students with practical experience in an organizational setting. It helps students improve their skills; develop their professional attitudes, and competence in the application of learned theories and concepts. The course requires work on an identified task and presenting a written report at the end of the Internship.

Industry Project (for working students) Course Code 470 for all Majors, (but with respective prefixes of the Majors)

The purpose of this course is to provide the working students with practical experience in an organization setting where learning and doing are the chief objectives. Students will develop competence in the application of theory, skills and attitudes, by requiring them to undertake an industry project via research and analysis of an actual business problem /opportunity and to propose a solution/development (business case), or develop a business plan, resulting in both an oral and a written presentation.
