Institutional resources

University of Dubai has SIX PCs labs, four at the MSUD building and TWO at the Dubai Chamber of Commerce & Industry building:

• The library contains also 20 PCs that can be accessed anytime during the working-hours of the library from 7:30 am to 21:00.
• There are 23 classrooms shared by the MSUD and Dubai Chamber of Commerce & Industry building. Each classroom contains a PC and data projector. The PCs are connected to the internet through wireless network.
• The University of Dubai has eight laptops, essentially used for presentation purposes. These laptops are hold by the IT services who manages their borrowing to the Faculty
• Regarding the network environment, The University is equipped with two types of connectivity wired - and wireless. The whole UD site is covered with a wireless connection which enables the faculty members and student accessing the internet anywhere at UD site.
• The speed of the LAN is 100 Mbps (the backbone) and the speed of the internet is 2 Mbps accelerated using Microsoft Internet Security and Acceleration Server 2004 (ISA Server) to 3 Mbps.
• The software resources includes a bunch of programs installed on each PC machine, the essential ones are:

- Windows XP Service Pack 2 as operating system
- Acrobat 8 Professional
- Adobe Illustrator CS
- Adobe Photoshop CS
- MS Office 2003
- MS Project 2003
- MS XP FrontPage
- Real Player
- QM 4 W2K
- QuickTime
- SPSS v.12

Program resources

The College of Information Technology has two PCs dedicated for research activities, a common printer and a scanner, a dedicated conference room with PC and data projector for internal research meeting and seminars.

The main software resources which are proper to the college of Information Technology are:

Student Access

Each student can access computers at Laboratories using his own account. Students are also allocated proper email accounts
The laboratories are available to all students and faculty at the time of scheduled classes. Outside regular classes, students can access labs after approval from the Department of Information Technology (IT) Services.
Library computers can be used at any time during library working-hours from 7:30 to 21:00.
A dedicated lab (MSUD 304) is available to the students in the weekends from 11:00 to 19:00 pm
Library PC can also be accessed Saturdays from 7:30 to 18:00
