Al Bastaki, President of the University of Dubai, said: “This achievement is one of the first steps towards attaining exceptional reputation at the global level. I am optimistic that UAE universities will soon be among the top 50 universities in the world.” The QS World University Rankings for the Arab Region is focused on academic and employer reputation more than any other criteria, and University of Dubai has managed to achieve a good share of this collective reputation. Recently, several publications in the UAE carried reports about the employer reputation of University of Dubai. Publications such as Emarat Al Youm and Gulf News reported the success of the university’s internship program, stating that it has achieved 100% placement of its students in internship programs within the UAE, especially Dubai. Every student enrolled in the university’s internship program has received at least three internship opportunities while as many as 52 per cent of those who did internships were offered jobs. Stating that academic and employer reputations are intertwined, Dr. Al Bastaki said employers are always in search of good candidates based on the academic reputation of their university. He therefore called on universities to make the process easier for employers by integrating more practical courses in their academic programs. Other criteria in the “QS World University Rankings for the Arab Region” report include; Faculty Student ratio, International Faculty, International Students, Staff with PhD, Web Impact, Papers per Faculty, and Citations per Paper.
