UD Virtually Hosts Its 5th International Conference on Advances in Business and Law

Following the success of the four past conferences in 2017, 2018, 2019 and 2020 with participants from numerous countries, Dubai Business School and the College of Law at the University of Dubai (UD) hosted the 5th International Conference on Advances in Business and Law (ICABL). This year’s conference was held virtually aiming to exchange knowledge, experience and expertise in the broad areas of finance, economics, management, and law by academics from developed and emerging economies. The conference theme was “Business Recovery During and Post Covid-19 Pandemic.”

The conference featured keynote addresses in addition to high-quality research paper presentations in concurrent sessions. It also covered the latest research findings, current practices, and theoretical developments in economics, finance, accounting, management, marketing, and law. Academics and professionals were invited from around the globe to contribute to the conference by presenting their papers and participating in discussion forums. Scholars were given fifteen minutes for each presentation and the assigned discussants five minutes to respond and interact. At the end of the session, left over time was allocated for a general Q&A session on all papers presented.

UD President Dr. Eesa Al Bastaki commented on this yearly conference by stressing the importance of UD’s mission and vision in making the University an international hub for quality education. “We aim to create a platform that welcomes academics and researchers from all over the world to help them exchange ideas on their research and discuss future developments in their disciplines,” he added.

During this year’s conference, three virtual rooms were created, two of which were dedicated for parallel presentations. Registered participants were given access to both virtual rooms which were monitored by IT staff who assisted the chairs, presenters and discussants. A third virtual zoom help desk was created to facilitate communication.

Moreover, two keynote speakers delivered informative presentations to the participants about significant financial concerns shaping up today’s ongoing challenges. The first keynote speaker Professor of Economics at University Paris VIII Dr. Julien Chevallier posed and tackled the following question: Is it Possible to Forecast the Price of Bitcoin? Whereas the second keynote speaker Professor of Accounting and Financial Management at Portsmouth University Dr. Khaled Hussainey shared his experience in financial reporting, Accounting, Auditing and Performance Evaluation.
