UD Organizes Quiz Bee: Math Competition for UAE High Schoolers 

The University of Dubai (UD) organized Quiz Bee: The Math Pi Competition 2022 at its campus in Dubai Academic City for high school students across the UAE. UD faculty members Dr. Abigail Casten Copiaco and Dr. Diana Wasfi Mustafa Dawoud supervised the competition and formulated the questions of the quiz. 

In an attempt to help school students master the different topics in Math, the University conducted the Quiz Bee Math challenge which is a competition that requires students to answer questions that appear on an active board using a smart device. Upon the completion of the challenge, students will acquire new skills and understand the significance of research. 

16 teams of high school students – Grade 10, 11, and 12 – from more than 10 schools across the UAE participated in the competition and received valuable monetary prizes, trophies and certificates of participation. 

The first three winners of the competition were: Sharjah International Private School – 1st place, Dubai Modern Education School – 2nd place, and Applied Technology High School – Abudhabi Boys – 3rd place.

UD Chief Operating Officer  Dr. Nasser Al Muraqab, school counselors, math teachers as well as UD faculty and staff members attended the event and provided assistance to participating teams. 

Dr. Abigail welcomed the attendees and highlighted the role of Quiz Bee Competition in fostering and developing the skills and talents of school students. “Through such events, students feel encouraged to learn and discover new problem-solving methods and techniques to face dilemmas,” she said. “Our purpose, as an educational institution, is to equip students with necessary tools that enable them to analyze situations, overcome challenges, find solutions to critical problems, and make right decisions,” she added.

In an interview, the 1st place winners from Sharjah International Private School; Marwan Mohamed, Abdelrahman Mostafa, and Mohamed Tamer thanked the University of Dubai for hosting Quiz Bee and providing an opportunity for students to practice their skills, interact with each other and enhance their learning experiences.
