AWR 865 Academic Writing and Research Proposal Practicum
The goal of this course is to assist students in developing their academic writing abilities to successfully meet the demands of graduate-level writing. Students will move beyond research writing to strengthen their understanding of the purpose of scholarly writing and develop the critical reading, analysis, writing, and revision skills required to create research papers that meet the rigorous requirements of graduate-level writing through the course's focus on genre, conventions, style, and mechanisms.
QRY 865 Â Quantitative Research Methods
This course will cover the modern issues in quantitative and structural equation modeling (SEM) as applicable to the investigation of organizational phenomena. This course will cover the modern issues in quantitative methods including structural equation modeling (SEM) as applicable to the investigation of organizational phenomena. The PhD learners will distinguish between exploratory and confirmatory uses of factor analytic techniques. Additionally, PhD learners will critically evaluate the measurement (confirmatory factor Analysis) and structural models, path analysis, latent variables, estimation, testing fit, and the implementation of SEM, skills necessary to independently perform a quantitative analysis.
QRM 865 Â Qualitative Research Methods
The aim of this course is to provide doctoral students with an introduction to field methods and qualitative data analysis. Through the presentation of scholarly readings and immersion into one’s own in-depth research project, this course explores a variety of qualitative research approaches, taking into account issues of epistemology (ways of knowing), methodology (ways of examining), and representation (ways of writing and reporting). We will examine interpretive theory and several intellectual traditions that constitute this field of research, including analytic induction, grounded theory, sense making, and ethnography. We will read exemplars of qualitative research that illustrate these particular theoretical traditions and examine key issues such as gaining access to research sites, forms of interactions with research subjects, and research ethics. Ethical dilemmas will be a significant focus, addressing concerns such as informed consent, confidentiality, researcher bias, and the ethical implications of representation and reporting. These discussions will help students navigate the complex ethical landscape of qualitative research. PhD candidates will carry out their own research projects, engaging in 30+ hours of field research. Through this project, students will have the opportunity to collectively enact and reflect upon the central phases of qualitative research such as planning, negotiating access, observing, interviewing, creating field texts, analyzing field texts, writing, and explicating the contribution of their work. The goal is that PhD candidates will emerge from the class with first-hand qualitative research experience and a significant understanding of qualitative methods that can serve as a basis for an ongoing research program, providing a strong foundation for ongoing research endeavors.
SMG 865 Â Strategic Management
The current course is concerned with understanding how the sources of firms’ success and failure as a prerequisite could contribute to improving their performance. The strategic process draws from a variety of intellectual disciplines such as economics, and organization theory, further, strategic management integrates and accompaniments other business functions such as finance, human resources, operations, information technology, and marketing.
This course will help students to critically review and evaluate classic and current theoretical approaches to strategy. students are expected to conduct interrelated research in strategic management with other related areas such as; international business, organization theory, entrepreneurship, marketing strategy, and operations management, etc.).
SLD 865​ Strategic Leadership and Organizational Behavior
This course delves into the advanced theories and practices of strategic leadership and organizational dynamics, emphasizing the intricate relationships between leadership behaviors, organizational culture, and strategic decision-making. Students will explore the multifaceted nature of leadership in complex and sustainable organizations in the UAE/ GCC context, critically analyze various leadership models, and examine how organizational dynamics influence and are influenced by strategic leadership. Through a blend of theoretical frameworks, empirical research, and practical applications, students will enhance their ability to think critically and strategically about leadership and organizational dynamics.
ACF 865 Accounting and Financial Management
The objective of the course is to provide an introduction to the positive accounting theory and related earnings management practices, financial reporting policy, corporate governance mechanisms and corporate social responsibility issues, corporate finance, financial intermediation, and financial markets. The goal is to expose students to existing work and provide basic tools to do research in the area. While the course covers the theories in the area, it also provides essential tools in forming frameworks that can serve as a basis for empirical work. The course will include lectures in which the instructor reviews papers from the literature. Some papers will be discussed in great depth, while others will be briefly mentioned and left for students for further research. Topics and papers may be modified depending on progress.
IBT 865 Â International Business and Foreign Trade
The course is structured to provide students with a deep understanding of the theoretical foundations of the International Business and Foreign Trade. Unlike many other business domains, this field is inherently multidisciplinary and draws insights from various streams. In essence, IB is primarily concerned with comprehending both the mechanisms and rationales related to national and international business and trade. The course covers theoretical and empirical contributions and critique from the fields of globalization, multinational firm strategies and structures, entry modes, international alliances, foreign investments, trade theories and trade policy agreements. It will also provide insights on the relationship between trade and economic development along with other contemporary issues like sustainable environment, investments and trade facilitation.
The course will use both lectures and real-world case studies and journal articles to illustrate the theories being taught. Overall, this course provides a critical analysis of the key international business theories for managers seeking to make informed decisions in today's complex global landscape.
GTM 865 Global Talent Management
This course offers an in-depth exploration of the strategic, organizational, and practical aspects of managing talent on a global scale, with a specific focus on sustainability and HR functions within the UAE/GCC context. Students will examine key theories, frameworks, and contemporary issues in global talent management, including sustainable talent acquisition, development, retention, and succession planning.
